Biblical Counseling 1- Course Description:

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to Biblical counseling principles and practices. Biblical counseling is rooted in the sufficiency of Scripture and aims to help individuals address life's challenges through the lens of God's Word.

Throughout the course, participants will explore the foundational principles of Biblical counseling, learn to apply Scripture effectively in counseling situations, and develop practical skills for helping others. The curriculum is designed to be accessible and practical, equipping students to provide Christ-centered counsel in their spheres of influence.

Key topics covered include:

The biblical foundation for counseling
Core principles of biblical change
Understanding common counseling issues
Practical counseling methods and techniques
The role of the Holy Spirit in the counseling process

By the end of this course, students will have a solid foundation in Biblical counseling principles, enabling them to offer biblical wisdom and guidance to others. This course is ideal for church leaders, ministry workers, and anyone seeking to develop their ability to counsel others from a biblical perspective.

While this course is designed to make Biblical Counseling principles accessible to everyone, it also provides a robust foundation and additional resources for those pursuing more intensive study. Students interested in certification with ACBC (Association of Certified Biblical Counselors), will find the material and recommended resources valuable for their preparation. The course structure allows participants to engage at their preferred depth - whether for personal growth, lay ministry, or professional development.

Outcomes:

Understand the Biblical Foundation for Counseling: Learn how Scripture provides sufficient guidance for life and godliness, and develop a theological framework for biblical counseling that emphasizes the authority and relevancy of God's Word.
Apprehend Core Counseling Principles: Gain practical skills in gathering information, identifying heart issues, applying Scripture effectively, and developing biblical action steps for change and growth.
Implement Biblical Methods: Learn to address common counseling issues through Scripture, prayer, and discipleship while maintaining a focus on Christ-Centered, gospel-driven, Holy Spirit-empowered progressive sanctification.

Course Materials:

The course utilizes four primary resources to help us understand what the Bible says about Counseling Issues:

"A Theology of Biblical Counseling" by Heath Lambert: This comprehensive text establishes the theological foundations of biblical counseling, demonstrating how doctrine shapes counseling practice and why Scripture is sufficient for addressing life's challenges.
"Instruments in the Redeemer's Hands" by Paul David Tripp: This practical resource explores how God uses people to help people, providing a framework for personal ministry and biblical change. It emphasizes the importance of heart-level transformation in the counseling process.
Video Lectures by Dr. John Street: These lectures provide expert instruction on biblical counseling principles and methodology, drawing from Dr. Street's extensive experience in both counseling practice and education. The lectures complement the reading materials by offering practical insights and real-world applications.
Counseling Observation Videos with Dr. Street: These videos provide invaluable real-world examples of biblical counseling in action. By observing Dr. Street conduct actual counseling sessions, students can see how biblical principles and counseling techniques are applied in genuine counseling situations. These demonstrations help bridge the gap between theory and practice.

These materials work together to provide both theoretical understanding and practical application of biblical counseling principles.
